Review in The International Record Review, March 2010: PDF
Excerpt: "Pretty much every item here is a gem: Croton's setting of Sonnet XXX, which gives the disc its title, is a masterpiece of subtle word-painting; it is also wholly successful in creating a sense of genuine strangeness through the contrasting of the contemporary style of the music with the antiquity both of the text and the lute."

Video with Evelyn Tubb (soprano):

Four settings of texts by William Shakespeare for Voice and Lute

These four songs were composed for accompaniment with 10-course renaissance lute, but are easily adaptable for a 7-course instrument. The lute parts are notated in French tablature. The vocal parts are mid-range, suitable for mezzo-soprano, alto, or lyric baritone. The style is modern, yet melodic and quite accessible for performers and listeners accustomed to early music. An audio CD accompanies the scores.
